The Power 10 Project was born out of a personal connection between rowing, heritage, and family. My parents are from South Africa, and while I grew up in Seattle, I’ve been blessed to maintain a connection to their home country. Rowing entered my life at Seattle Prep and quickly became more than just a sport. Rowing shaped my discipline, my resilience, and my sense of community, changing my life for the better in countless ways.
During a visit to South Africa, I had the chance to row with a local club, Redhouse Rowing. Sharing the boat with athletes there gave me a new perspective on the challenges and opportunities that exist in the sport. I saw firsthand how rowing can transform lives, not only through competition, but through teamwork, mentorship, and confidence built on the water.
The Power 10 Project exists to carry that spirit forward by bridging my own rowing journey with the goal of expanding access to the sport for young athletes in South Africa. Just like a power 10 can shift the momentum of a race, we believe collective effort can shift the future for kids with dreams as big as the water they row on.
